MTB Tyres For Wet Conditions

Hey guys, I'm looking for some new tyres for when it's wet. I'm currently running 26x2.00 Hutchinson Pythons which are only good for dry hardpack.

Would something like the Continental Race King on the rear and Mountain King on the front be a good option or a step in the right direction?

Any other options from here or somewhere else that's not too expensive?

Maxxis Ignitors are the best tyres for all year round use in Ireland ...... IMHO!

Just got one of these after years on Schwalbes, very, very impressed, great in the muck too.

    Maxis Ignitors all the way!

Tried a Python on the front and found that it was very unpredictable - you never knew when it would let go and wash out.

Mountain Kings are good but are not knobbly enough for our schlomp and lose traction easily when climbing in the wet - the flip side is that they clear mud easily and are a very good Irish summer tyre.

The Ignitors are where most Irish MTB'rs end up, just keep an check on the sidewalls if you run them at low pressure in rocky places as the sidewalls on the tubed version can be easily ripped - replace if you see any damage or you may have a long walk home.

If your getting the ignitors for general trail riding it's probably best to use the 2.3 sized ones as the 2.1 are quite skinny and more of a race tyre.

I've been hearing good things about the conti rubber queen aswell, supposedly better grip than ignitors combined with lower rolling resistance (supposedly all due to this black chilli compound) but I haven't tried them myself.

All depends on what you're mostly riding.
Never really used igniters so can't comment.

Best for grip in wet hands down are swamp things super tacky. Nothing grips like them or gives such confidence over wet roots and rocks outside full on spikes. There's a bit of weight in them though, so best for when things get really messy.
Have used a bunch of other tires for (high rollers, advantages, swamps, trail rakers etc.), - using 2.25 nobby nics at the moment and really liking them. A good balance for weight, grip and rolling, - a bit on the pricey side though.
I can see them becoming my standard tyre in the future.
Tyres are very much a personal thing though, - everyone has their own preferences and it depends on how technical your trails are.
