Hi, just wondering if anyone has any experience of home exchanges? Specifically interested in how you sort out insurance when you also swap cars?

have been thru this with several exchanges in North America and Europe. You need to get the driver(s) using your car on your insurance policy and ask the people you are exchanging with to get your driver(s) on their insurance. I have had mixed experience with getting people on my policy being charged for them and also having hassle with getting a US driver covered (but none for a Canadian family!). My insurer was reluctant to cover a US driver arguing they are riskier. Some nonsense to do with automatic cars as far as i can recall. Luckily my wife knew somebody at a fairly high level in the company and she sorted it out but insurance should not work on that basis.
Now having hassle over house insurance as I asked if it is covered or not...company wants 50% loading on the policy. once again insurers penalising people for being honest!
I would advise you to ask those you are swapping with some very direct questions about the car....we had a very bad experience with a car exchange in Spain with the air con, radio not working, window fell out on the motorway.....!!
