if you google.ie "revenue millage rates" you will get the rate that is generally acceptable.

company i work for pays .61c per km regardless of engine

I use the max of 59.07c p/km for myself - this is the max allowable as an expense.
Up to 1.2l is max 39.12c & 1.2-1.5l is 46.25c
You can pay what you want but can only put these amounts through your books as allowable expenses.
Fair amount? Well that would be dependant on milage done and more importantly what you can afford - make an good estimate of milage and see how this fits into your cashflow/budget.
