As the title suggests I have connected the STB to TV via HDMI to DVI cable. I knew I would not have audio through the DVI connection (only HD option - no HDMI on the TV). Is there any way I can get the optical audio to the L & R analogue inputs of the telly?

I am taking audio from the SCART socket of my Walker box to the phono inputs of a stereo amp. This works well and can be done using a SCART adaptor which provides the necessary audio output phono sockets.

Maplin or any decent electrical shop should have suitable adaptors and leads available. Walker skimped a bit by not providing the phono sockets directly on the box.

I tried the scart adapter option but you've fed the audio through an amp first? Using the scart block/adapter I get no audio. I've seen optical to analogue audio converters online for £40 + p&p. A little steep I thought. I'm looking for options at this stage.

The TV (Sony 20") has HDMI, but as the internal speakers are weak I have the option of switching-on the stereo amp to give vastly improved sound through proper hi-fi speakers. The SCART from the Walker box as well as a Goodmans Freesat HD box is routed through a 3-way SCART switcher box from Maplin which has audio-out phono sockets. This arrangement is also handy for listening to radio stations without having the TV running.

My main reason for using the SCART switcher is to feed a DVD recorder. The 3rd input takes a VHS tape player, but that's a whole other story!

I wonder if anyone else has experience of using the optical outputs? Amplifiers with optical-in seem to be extremely expensive.
