Me, the boyfriend and a few friends are thinking of heading to Peurto Rico at the start of August. Can anybody tell me what it is like and what things there are to do there?

Do you mean Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria or Puerto Rico the country*?

Edit : * Before anyone says it it's a commonwealth not a country as such

Went there last year on a couples holiday in November

Averaged 30 degrees time we were there - highest 34 - in November!! :O

It's a valley with one side open on the ocean. The hotels are up the sides of the valley either side. There is a very big open strip mall in the middle (shops downstairs/ bars and restaurants upstairs) and some separate businesses like mcdonalds/ supermarket etc. It's very touristy and there are guys selling fake rolexes etc. the length of the mall.
Everyone speaks english and there are at least two Irish bars there (harp bar and another one)

Stayed in the Casablanca apart-hotel was quite nice - nice pool/ cleaned daily/ friendly staff/nightporter excellent (for late nights out). I would recommend. bought breakfast stuff when we landed and ate lunch and dinner out. food was cheap - in hotel burger/chips/salad/drink was about 6 euro which was more expensive than the mall. a pint of beer is about 3 euros. a full meal for two plus wine is about 35 euro.

My overall impression of the place was it was like going on holidays 10/20 years ago - nothing is very modern but it's a nice area. (tv in bars have analog satellite dishes etc.) If I was back again I definitely would have explored more of the island but the heat etc. killed my motivation :p

The beach was nice but very crowded even in November. There was parasailing/ jetskis (which I didn't do) and a dolphin tour (which I did do, took 3 hours and saw nothing although nice to see the coast etc)

Lots of Irish and British there, v good craic when I was there, we became friends with british and scottish people while there.

So if you are looking for a chill out sun holiday it's exactly the ticket/ can't really tell you about cultural element as didn't do that bit!

    I went last May,

Cant remember where we stayed.. was three sets of steps up though!!
    so was fine!

make sure you get an apartment or hotel not too high!!

    Beaches were nice.

I came home virtually like nutella, was so dark.

    Great restaurants.
    Good Music.
    Cheapish drink.

    Nights ended early though.
Unless you went to the night club (only one open after a certain time)

I had a great week away though...
    and it wasn't busy season..
    made savage friends too!!

I think there's a load of watersports alright - I'm not sure about the waterparks - didn't see any mention of any when there (bar fuertaventura which is another island altogether).

Ha, a lot of cats alright shaken cat :D and dustycars and crossing a busy road and two minor roads with traffic coming the in the right hand lanes. We're legends
