    Hi there,
We have about 10 house martin nests on our house (started out with one :D)... We also had several swallow nests in our garage for the last 2 years, however they have not returned this year, just wondering if the house martins are terratorial and the increase in the the amount of house martins has discouraged the swallows from nesting or is it just one of those things??

One possibility is that the family line of swallows that used your garage didn't survive migration. A lot of swallows get wiped out by sandstorms crossing the Sahara. If this happened to the ones using your garage, it will need new birds to discover the site before you get any nests again.

we have loads of housemartins and swallows and looking at them they do not appear to have "issues" with each other. well they all have come back over and over for the last few years anyway and i have never seen them interfering with each other.
but I am new to all this;)

Thanks for the replys, probably is just a case of them not surviving the migration this year... Shame, loved having them in the garage...
