Battery cover on semi acoustic

I've lost the battery cover of an Epiphone semi-acoustic, and I need to get it working again. It takes a 9V, there's two spring contacts inside the case, and as far as I remember the lid was just a metal cover with no clips or anything to connect to the guitar.

So to get it working, do I just need to put some kind of metal cover across the top, to make the contact with the battery? Or should there be a connection clip, like on a smoke alarm?

Awe man, I was really hoping to see you covering Metallica's "Battery" on a semi-acoustic. :o
    That woulda been awesome!! :)

Anyway, throw up a few pics of your guitar so we can see what the story is.
Otherwise we'll be just offering random, unhelpful guesses.

Only seeing your response now, I am TOTALLY gonna do that cover. Watch this space! :-)

BTW I sold the guitar, didn't need a cover in the end.
