Looking at an Alfa 147 tonight, but it has its engine changed a year ago. It's a 02 car with 03 engine on it. Would the timing belt have been done with the swap?

How on Earth would we know?:)

Ok maybe stupid question but what I meant would it be standard practice?

Also, the car had 155,000 miles on it with the old engine then with the engine swap Should I steer clear or is it nothing to worry about?

Myself personally, I'd steer clear. Plenty of other examples about.

It would be good practise, but never ever assume a TB has been changed unless you have documented proof. Unless the car's being literally almost given away i'd keep looking.

    Who changed the engine?

    I presume it was like for like, i.e. a 1.6 T-Spark for a 1.6 T-spark?

Check the electrics etc carefully-the ECUs were probably the same, but you never know.

Also, what kind of mileage was on the 2003 engine when fitted?

Not sure about the mileage on the 03 engine. I'll have a look and try and get as much information as possible tonight when I view it and get back to you all for advice.

Its got leather seats which is a massive plus for me and looks in good nick. Just don't want to be stuck with a dud.

I've just been told by britton that since the engine was swapped it counts as a modified car and I can't be quoted. Is that right? Quinn had no issues what so ever with.

At a guess the engine was changed because the T-Belt snapped, get a proper Alfa Mech to look it over for you. Not someone who thinks he knows Alfa's...

if it was me I'd be looking for all the info on when, where, how and who changed it and the documents to prove it..

Insurance should be no problem if it was a swop like for like, but they may require written info as proof...

As said, there are better examples of 147's around...So maybe keep looking And you can find more info on here & advice
