saw lots of signs today saying the M9 is closed on Sunday from 6am - 6pm. has anyone any ideas why this might be?

Yeah, between J6 and J10 according to signs I've seen.

No idea why that would be, but I believe that it was built in four or five sections, and that stretch corresponds to one of them.

Does this not seem a bit OTT to anybody else? Closing a newly opened motorway, I hope it's pretty urgent what they have to do.

Just to polish a few signs . . .seems a bit odd.

Why on earth couldn't they have a rolling closure between junctions, instead of closing about 30 Km's of Motorway??

That's what I was thinking, or lane closures even? I think this is just KK coco suiting themselves as usual. The road isn't hardly open 9 months and they're closing it..makes no sense.

yeh makes no sense at all, and does seem very OTT. weird it has to be closed so soon after opening.

Irish local authorities haven't a clue about maintaining or the significance of motorways and the closing of same. Fair enough for some really urgent works or an accident of course but that isn't the case here far as I can see.
Could you imagine in the UK a local authority closing 30 km of a motorway for maintenance?!..I just don't think it would happen quite frankly.
At least the old N10 is a decent road and will be able to cope with the extra traffic for the day. They closed the N10 new link road a month or so ago as well so I really hope this is not a silly trend we are seeing here.

Yeah all the lunatics were back on the N10 again today.
Myself and 3 other cars were overtaken by a bus near Paddys pub today.
Irish progress, 2 steps forward one step back:(

The old n9 was quiet busy today, what was weird was the vms sign at knocktopher saying road closed and didn't mention that j10 to j6 was closed, so a lot of cars were heading for bennetsbridge / danesfort not Realising it was also closed.

Anyone on it since it reopened? What was actually done?

the only thing I noticed yesterday was on the link road into KK there are arrows in regular places painted on the road, showing that it is one direction i.e straight arrow facing each direction per lane, painted on the road and it shows it is not a dual carriageway.

There were a few new signs at the Danesfort Junction, telling you not to go the wrong way down the slip road. Thats all I've seen.
