Hi, anyone purchased travel insurance through this site, and can you tell me if they are reliable?

    Thanks

Purchased for a year last September, haven't had to claim though.

    Hi folks,

I came across this thread a from a few months ago and was just wondering if anyone had any further advice since then.

I am getting a quote for €186 for a year worldwide excl US. I have gone through the t+c's as well what and how much is covered and it seems to be the best value out there.

I suppose the only thing I'm not sure on is their reliability. Any experiences to share would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Well they are underwritten by a reliable big name, think it was Allianz. I was looking for major disaster coverage rather than losing luggage.

I had to claim from them very recently for a major medical emergency abroad. Any phone dealings I've had with them have been good. As I said it was very recent so everything is not fully sorted yet but they've assured me I'm fully covered. I'll update if I have any problems though.

Either way make sure you get travel insurance from someone. My hospital bill alone is nearly €6000 as well as a few hundred for emergency flights. Would have been screwed without it. The relief to not have to foot that bill is huge.

    Highly recommended.

Had a claim in hospital in Thailand for food poisoning last year and didn't even have to pay out of my own pocket and get reimbursed.

    They paid everything.

Not sure about this gang but whatever it takes, get insured!!

I travel to India once or twice a year. Literally go from the airport to my work and back again and only eat in a trusted friend's house. Was there for a few days last week and figured there was no need for travel insurance, but as someone else was paying I took it when the option came up on the website.
Got stuck in a 9 hour traffic jam and had to pay a lot of money to get home after I missed my flight. Would be looking at a very lean Christmas if I hadn't had insurance. Now lets see if ebookers pay out!
But seriously, don't leave home without it.

i am going to go with this crowd a few people have said they are very good however i am going to pay the extra 30 euro for the excess waiver this seems good value as most personal belongings are limited value at 250 with a 100 excess charge. did everyone on here buy grade1 cover? or grade2 or above?

Good to hear the positive experiences.

Ye the excess waiver seems worth it alright.

I think I'm only going to go for the Grade 1. It seems to cover most things and if there is something not on the list, I'm sure you could pay something extra to get insured on it.

Avoid Mondial Insurance anyway. They're the ones you'll be buying with if you get your insurance through ebookers.ie. I'm in the middle of a mini war with them right now. They won't pay out on a technicality. :(

Just an update on my earlier post: they paid my hospital bill directly so I was never out of pocket, only had to pay a very small excess. Very happy with them & would definitely recommend.
