    Hey Guys

Just wondering what the story is, everytime I get into a series it seems to get cancelled after 1 - 2 series. After Lost stopped was looking around for a new series to start watching. So started with FastForward, after 2 series cancelled. Then moved onto The Event, again a good show I thought but now cancelled as well from what I can see. What is the story? is the US just pulling all new series? they not allowing any good series a good chance to finish there series?

Just seen as well my wifes show, Brothers and Sisters has been cancelled. Just wondering what is left and worth watching? I am also watching Blue Brothers(not very good) and waiting for Nikita to start again this friday! just need something good to have for the weekend on Sky+

Stargate Atlantis and Universe cancelled too. Joseph Malozzi the producer of SGU reckoned it was because a lot of viewers were just watching it online now and the Nielsen system of ratings which the networks rely on doesn't account for it.

I think the problem with shows like Flashforward and The Event are that they don't really appeal to mainstream audiences in the same way shows like Lost did (or at least did in its early seasons), yet were trying too hard to be it.

It woulda been lucky to get that, cancelled before the first season ended IIRC. Breaking Bad starts season 4 sometime this week I think, great show!

I like Hawaii 5-0 (Renewed for second season) and NCIS LA (Renewed for 3rd). Community is probs one of the best comedies on now, renewed for season 3.

Alcatraz is JJ Abram's new show coming in the fall lineup (I think) COULD be the next Lost .Although as you said, the track records of "next losts" usually end up as single season shows.

Theres also the Terra Nova and Awake starting this year.

Hawaii 5-0 is brutal to be honest and I just cant watch NICS LA, worst show ever in my opinion.

Will wait till Alcatraz so, must have a look at that

Dexter Season 5 starts tonight on FX. Not the best season, but Dexter has always been very watchable.

    GAME OF THRONES

Years of quality viewing to be had with it I'd imagine.

The trouble with some shows like Flashforward and The Event is that they're trying to be the next Lost. But Lost wasn't really 'the next.... anything'. You never knew it was going to turn out to be as complicated as it was. New shows trying to emulate the same effect fail because now people know that they're going to try be mysterious and have huge cliffhangers.

After Lost, I think a lot of people were just tired of that sort of show. Cliffhangers are great, but not when they're forced into it.

well he reckons wrong, it was cancelled because it was terrible. Sci fi isn't like sitcoms, you can't just throw a famous face into a cast of nobodies with a series of **** scripts and expect it to do well.

I agree... sometimes the story was spread so thinly that episodes came and went without anything of interest happening.

I think Universe hit its stride during the last few episodes. It was like a BSG-style Star Trek. IMO Universe is what Enterprise should have been. The fact that they took the time to develop a lot of the characters (not just main "hero" and sidekick like most other shows) might have worked against them as people thought it too slow.

I liked Southland but that seems to have disappeared too. Glad I didn't start watching the Chicago Code as I would have been pissed to get into it then hear it was cancelled.

I really wanted to like Caprica but cancellation was the way to go there. I don't think they knew where to go beyond "ZOMG Spoiled gurl in teh Virtual Reality becomez Cylonz!!1101!010! LOL"

I liked the character development at first, but.. that's all the show was in the end. There was almost nothing else to it, and without the "sci fi" aspect of the show to fall back on all we had was the unfortunately amateur hour drama the writers could dish up week by week.

True, however I think they went through all that development so you might feel for the characters and then kill a few off in season finales/openers for a bigger impact.

Either that or it was just Coronation Street in Space as you said.

Space Above and Beyond - now that deserved a second series. They knew they were going to be cancelled so went out with a bang, though.

Reaper should of been given another series. I was shocked when I heard FlashForward wasn't getting another season, I thought it had a good fan base. The Unit should have gotten another season also, season 4 ended with alot of great possible story lines

Im really disappointed Detroit 1-8-7 has been cancelled. I`m really enjoying.
Same, although to a lesser extent, with Chicago Code.

 - Southland is still alive...it's getting a FOURTH season!, a testament to it's quality and critical acclaim.

But you have to admit, those final five episodes were excellent.

Have to say I am really disapointed that the Chicago Code was cancelled. It had some potential. Also Lie to me was cancelled!!

Well, to be fair to Lie to Me, it was beginning to become a bit of a parody of itself - Tim Roth's walk was just a bit too exaggerated and his demeanor over all.

I am disappointed over Detrot 1-8-7 being cancelled though - I thought it was pretty good.

game of thrones, spartacus, boardwalk empire, breaking bad, and dexter, off the top of my head they should all be running for at least the next 5 years,

maybe not breaking bad (season 4 starting soon) and dexter (season 6 starting in a few moths) both have a least 2 years left, if not longer,

so theres 12 seasons of tv to catch up on, and 5 new shows for you to watch for the next few years:D

What station is it on? It disappeared off the series link and then I just forgot about it. Must try and catch up.

I agree with you, Lie to me was getting to the "lost" stage. Better off ending it now rather than later.

I was hoping that this would be the last season of Dexter to be honest. The show really needs to wind down at this point. If Breaking Bad stays at the standard its at at the moment , it can stay as long as it wants. :D

I hope you are right, but I really can't see it going for longer than 2 seasons, 3 at best. It just seems like Rome all over again :(

The Nielsens is a big part of shows getting canceled specifically sci fi esque shows like fastforward or the event(even though bothe were **** imo).
Alot of people who watch these shows are doing it online and the broadcasters simply refuse to adapt to account or even try to track that stat. Many a show has been lost because of that in recent years.
Also you gotta account for the vast stupidity of american audiences. I gave up on them when Studio 60 got cancelled, heres a rule NOTHING Aaron Sorkin makes should be canceled
