    Hi all,
long story short here... after 3 years of trying i have finally been prescribed clomid - so happy to finally be able to do something about not being able to conceive however... I am moving to Australia next month and i'm going to wait til then to begin taking it as i was told i'd need regular monitoring at the hospital during taking it.

anyone know of a good hospital for monitoring in perth?
Will i just register with a doctor and get them to refer me to a hospital or go to my doctor here and see if he can help out?
Will hospital monitor me on clomid when they havent prescribed it? (I cant wait that long to go through all the testing again to be prescribed)

anyone with similar experiences i'd be really grateful to hear your advice
    Thanks :)

I dont have similar experience really, but when I was referred to the fertility specialist from the GP, all the bloods had to be repeated beforehand and I had to pay again. Now, in Oz, the good news is that IVF procedures etc cost you relatively little if you have medicare - look into gettting that organised asap, and even private insurance (thought you may not need it there) rebates for fertility procedures. Medicare reimburses you within 72 hours.

I would suggest your best approach is to research a clinic in Perth before you go. Explain your situation and ask them what they would need from your specialist here, and they can give you pointers on the aussie paperwork you need.

    All the best

Thanks for the reply, I will start looking into hosp/ clinics in Perth to see which one suits.

It's just that I've had the bloods, hystro etc all done a couple of times and with all the waiting in between for fertility specialists it's taken 3 years to be prescribed clomid so don't want to be going out there to start it all again. I'd love to be able to take the 3 month clomid that I already have when I get there and just go to hosp for the scans/ monitoring but wondering if anyone had any exp of australia in relation to fertility treatment. will they let me take my own or want to do all the tests again themselves?

Suppose no one can really answer that question as it's different for each clinic, but you never know who's had similar experiences on here :)

thanks again for the reply, will start emailing and see what the response is!

I would assume that they do things quickly over there, considering that with medicare reimbursements patients and doctors quickly agree on the plan of action.

I dont think that you will be waiting anything like 3 years.I would imagine you would be on clomid within 3 months :) My sister told me that over there, aussie women move onto IVF if they dont concieve within 6 months - at least the 3 colleagues that she worked with did.

Great, thanks for the reply! That sounds great they're so good about fertility issues :) hopefully because I already have the three month's worth of clomid and only need the monitoring they'll be pretty swift at seeing me!

Thanks again, settles my mind a bit x
