im planning on doing a plc course in september and will be applying for the grant, im a bit worried as im a mature student 25 (single mother) that was living at home up untill last december but on the website it says you must be independant from your parents since the 1st october

i have esb bills and bank statments since december from the house i own and live in, my parents gifted the house to me last nov (signed forms in front of solicitor)but the deeds only arrived 2 weeks ago

is this enough to prove i am independant from them? ther is no way i can afford travel costs/childcare if i dont get the full grant+special rate

My guess is that the grant will be assessed on your parents income

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

more than likely you're gonna have to go under your parents income. I was in a similar situation, as were others in my course, and once you don't tick the grant office boxes, you'll get nothing.

I was actually told to drop out, go on the dole for a year, then reapply and they could then offer me everything. That was the grant office in Clonmel, wish I got the woman's name!

But suss it out, don't take his as gospel

well ive checked my paper work and i have bank statments and cr union statments goin back past sept last year, esb has being in my name since november and my driver licence from april 2010 is for that address also.
im gonna sent a letter from my parents saying ive being in that house since sept 2010, what more could they ask me for???

its such a stupid rule, im totally seperate from my parent with my own child to support and im not gonna have my grant goin my my parents wages that i dont benefit from, its crazy logic
im 25 and not living at home it just makes no sense!:(

I'm confused - does all your paperwork have your new address as at October 2010?

well once you have all those bank statements etc then I think it should be ok to assess it on your income

i believe that utility bills are the key factor.
bank statements and credit union statements dont seem to carry the same weight.
