Megane window fault (not the usual)

I just bought an 05 Megane 1.5 DCI. The windows are acting up . I searched boards and googled it but can't seem to find others with the same problem.

It's not the usual "window x is stuck down/up", all four windows will go up and down fully without fail - eventually. When the button is pressed the window will only go down about 2cm, then I have to release the button and press again, repeating this process until the window is down fully. And then do the same thing to get it back up. This is the case for all of the windows.

Is the problem with the regulators or is it something else?

Also, will it be covered by renaults "Goodwill policy", even though it is an 05?

    Thanks in advance.

Nah, that happens when the power has been disconnected to the windows (battery, fuse, etc). You just need to recalibrate the anti-pinch safety feature.

    It's a very simple procedure.

    1. wind up window until fully closed.
    2. switch off ignition
    3. hold and keep holding the window switch in the close position.
    4. turn on ignition
    5. release window switch after about 10 secs
    6. turn off ignition
    7. turn on ignition back on and window should go up and down normally.
    8. Repeat for other windows if required

Sounds like the garage disconnected or replaced the battery not long before you bought the car.

Deadly - thanks for the tip. The dealer is replacing the timing belt for me at the mo but I will try it when I get it back.

Thanks very much, good to know I dont have to fork out for new regulators etc.

Yeah, I know how you felt. Got the same fright the first time that happened, thought I'd fecked up something major while changing the battery, until I found out on the web too.
    Up the web, yayyyy
