Backing up iTunes library to Ex Hard Drive

Ok, so I've read the instructions and I'm now in the process of putting my music onto my new external hard drive! Trouble is, I'm always adding to iTunes. Is there any easy way of adding the new music separately instead of having to do a full backup each time? I know it only takes about 40 mins and is probably the best way of doing it but I'm just curious :o

You using a mac or windows?

There are plenty of free utilities for both that can backup only what has changed in the source folder.
