Does anyone buy music anymore ?

Anyone who works with bands knows that it's hard for them to sell their music - for lots of reasons (cough )

But do you buy music yourself ?

yup. i try to buy at least 2/3 cds or paid download albums a week. obviously this depends on whether there's anything worth buying released but in the last 2 weeks i've bought 2 new cds (the minutes & lowline), re-bought an old cd by ride that got scratched, aswell as 3 albums direct downloads from artists websites.

funnily enough the most expensive was the ride cd which is over 15 years old. the other few all came in under 10 euro each

also i must add that i originally got a copy of the lowline album from a friend. listened to it on the mp3 player on the way into work and ordered the cd as soon as i was near a net connection... piracy working in the musicians favour for once :)

Regularly buy a few CD's a month. I don't like buying "downloads" unless it's the only way to get something I really want. I really like compilations and wish more labels would do those. A cheap comp is a good way to get interested in a few bands.

A few artists I listen to usually do a CD+Tshirt deal for new albums. I really like this. :)

its been a while since i was devouring music, these days i rely on my friends for new stuff. probably because i spend so much time making my own.

but admittedly, i like a lot of other people i feel i've fallen into the trap of not having a budget for music anymore, as such, which i did before.

if i was 10 years younger i'm pretty sure i'd find the philosophy of paying for music barmy altogether! or else i'd be an Itunes sheep. these are trying times.

most of what i actually buy now is older stuff, trying to edu-ma-cate meself about how music has developed and understand it a bit more. i go to plenty of gigs and festivals too.

    You need a vinyl option.

If it's a nice package I'll buy the CD, but lately it's been easier to buy lossless downloads so I've been doing that whenever possible. I would also buy the odd pop song in iTunes.

I buy 7" LP's a good bit, a lot of hardcore bands local and american are printing them lately.

Other than that apart from the odd cassette, paid download, I never buy CD's.

    7" LP???

they must be the shortest songs EVER!

    vinyl option?

I, like a lot of guys I know, spend a few hundred a month on records. Wouldn't buy a download anymore, nor a CD.

If it's not on wax, I'll live without it.

I bought Mixmag today for the CD on the cover.

The magazine is absolute **** but the cover mount Cd can be a killer - and this months one is.

Who is going to buy a CD of a band who sound like a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy of a bad pub Oasis tribute band?

    Certainly not me.

There never really was any reason to buy a CD or record - you could always tape it from a friend. Or just tape the radio.

It's things like this made you buy a record

People would just buy the record, take it home, and maybe never even listen to it. I knew someone whose father bought all of Blondies albums - and the guy didn't even like music. Go figure - as the Yanks say.

Bought 3 albums this week - The Minutes (Marcata), Bon Iver's new one (selling in Golden Disks a wee bit early I might add!) and Battles (glass drop) - 3 great albums.

I'll only buy when there is something worth getting though.

I have a lot of music on my Ipod and a decent enough CD collection. Haven't bought a CD in months now though.

I like owning a physical copy and if I really like the artist, I feel it's right to give them my money for their creativity and good work.

HMV would be the best record store in my area but in my local branch they wouldn't have the exact CD I would be looking for sometimes. They are pretty good for indie releases but some albums are just hard to find in record stores.

Enjoy buying a good compilation, that's what my last few purchases have been. Good value for money, especially if you really like a certain genre and to discover similar artists and new music.
