If you have done 200km I can't see an extra 20km being a problem. On the west cork 200 it went way over the 200km mark which was a bit of a surprise and a struggle towards the end as most people weren't expecting it to be that long.
I just looked up that website and there is not much info on it about the cycle..... a map would be handy.
I've signed up for the ROK the following week so probably wouldn't do the 220km route.

ROK is a great cycle and its no harder than any of the other sportives. I started from Kenmare last year so got Molls gap out of the way early on. I didn't find Molls Gap especially difficult coming from the kenmare side, there was a steep enough climb after waterville think its called the Coomakista pass or something but when you get to the top you are rewarded with beautiful sea views. It was my first time doing it last year and I loved it, you get very type of cyclist doing it and its well supported.

This event has been very badly publicised, only heard about it myself the other day and I'm in the area!

As mentioned above a map of the route would be nice - a week to go and still no map!! How do they expect people to sign up??

    Hi All,

Just a quick note to say this is the first year we are running the Wild West Tour so apologies if the word has been slow in getting out there.

We have three routes the first is a Galway Moycullen, Spiddal, Galway route of just over 40k.
The start time for this is 9.15 am.

The second is essentially a tour around lough Corrib taking in Headford, Cross (food stop), Cong, Clonbur, Cornamona, Maam, Maam Cross (food stop), Oughterard, Galway. This is just under 120k and has two climbs to speak of one at Cornamona (short and relatively steep) and the other up Maam valley before the second food stop. This intermediate ride starts at 9.00 am.

The 222k route goes out the same route Cross, Cong, Clonbur, but then takes aright to Finney, Linane (first food stop), Kylemore, Carna, Kilkerrin, Screeb Derravoniff, Casla (second food stop) and then over Seanfeistin to Oughterard, and back into Galway.

Start time is 8.00 am and the route is 'bumpy' with two climbs to speak of Finney and Seanafeistin.

This last ride is not for the faint hearted as the best riders will spend between 7 and eight hours in the saddle. There may even be some that will take it really handy and take 10-11 hours to do it.

Hope this helps. Any questions give a ring.

I've only just spotted this in the Advertiser and i'm so happy there's a sportive on a Sunday as all the other sportives tend to happen on Sat and poor me has to work. I've had a look but i can't see a price for this sportive, is it FREE? I don't mind paying for these events as you deffinatly get value for your money but if it's free i'll give a little to charity.

The cost is 15 Euro for the 40k, and 30 euro for the 120 k and 222 k spins. All proceeds go to Galway Bay CC which is a registered charity dedicated to the promotion of cycling in the region. Goody bags with 'useful' items will be provided on the day.

What to bring??? Yerself, a good set of legs, raingear (just in case!!) a couple of spare tubes, tyre levels and a pump (although there will be a mechanical support car following the event) some food to top your energy levles between food stops and a above else a good positive attitude. You might also bring a good camera or camera phone and the views will be second to none.

On the 220km the climb of seanapheasteen with about 180km already on the legs will be tough going!

On the 40k there is one seriously steep climb leaving Moycullen on the road to Spiddal - goes for about 1km.

Thinking of trying the 220 loop so happy to finally see some information on this on the web.

From Aonghus's description of the big loop I'm coming up with something like:

    http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/37901024

I'm missing Finney but can't see it on the map so I hope this is close enough, although I am cautious about the overall climbing as map my ride isn't very accurate in these parts and was out by over 1000 meters on the Connemara Tour so I'd say this one will easily reach over 1500m ascend.

Aonghus what level of support and Marshalling will be out there on the day?

At1: If you have a look at a route of mine below you can see the Finney loop after Cong

Rest of your route looks fine.

Would like to do this, minus the rain of the TdC but having knee issues atm :-(

Hope all works out well on this : Just a quick question , on the 120k are you going in the opposite direction of the Croi cycle ? The headford road aint a pretty road to cycle on but I think its better going towards Headford from Galway .
