Dipped Headlights and Fog lights

When there is dense fog / falling snow, do I use the dipped headlights or the fog lights or use both of them?

When do I use fog lights? My friend told me that it's only when I park on the side of country road to let other people to see my car parked there. Is it true?

    THANKS!

You use both your dipped headlights and your fog lights, I think - the car I drive only has fog lights at the back but a lot of them have front and rear foglights!

You use fog lights when there is heavy fog, heavy rain or heavy snow or in conditions that visibility is unusually poor. Remember to turn them off when not needed, they are quite dazzling!

In general and as a rule of thumb only use fog lights when visibility is less than 100m

Your friend is wrong. Parking lights are for parking, if you've left the car on the road.
You wouldn't even be able to do that with most cars as the ignition has to be on for fog lights to work, and you're hardly going to leave the keys in it.

    There a 2 categories really.

    1. Front fog lights. Not fitted on all vehicles as there's no real need for them. Really only needed in very dense fog where your normal headlights will risk blinding you at night. They are designed to light the road low down (under the fog) and for a short distance in front. Generally useless other than that.

    2. Rear fog lights. Fitted to most vehicles (except the odd imported one).
Should be used is fog, heavy snow, smoke and very heavy rain. Basically if you are having difficulty seeing the car in front, those behind you are in the same boat so you should turn it on. Most car's will need the dipped headlights on to switch on the rear fog light. Some will work with parking lights and front fog lights.

And as said, remember to switch them off when not needed. It's very annoying at night if somebody in front has it on.

In dull conditions it's a good idea to drive with dipped headlights on anyway.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
