Commando (Remake)

Yeah, a remake, what else is new...
About a year ago, it was reported that Sam Worthington (Avatar, Terminator Salvation) was the top choice to star in the remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1985 action film "Commando."

David Ayer (Street Kings, Harsh Times) was on board to direct the new film, which will be a "real world" spin on the main character, retired elite special forces operative who sees his daughter kidnapped and is told she'll die unless he gets on a plane and kills the rival of a nasty exiled dictator.

Collider has now caught up with producer John Davis to get an update. "We have a really great script," he said. "I don't know if it really makes sense to call it 'Commando.' It is the reboot of it. It is David Ayer, who did 'Training Day.' He wrote it and wants to direct it. It is just waiting for the right moment for the studio to want to make it and finding the right actor."

Apparently Worthington is not on board yet. Davis added that the plan is to make the film R-rated. "Definitely. Right now the script that is written is a hard R."

Loved the film as a kid, but it's one of those films that I don't mind seeing a remake to. The majority fun of that film was that it didn't take itself half seriously. It'll be hugely difficult to replace Schwarzenegger in this one.

So, in essence, they have the name but again taking liberties with the story. The reason we all love the original is because it wasn't a "real world" spin. Grrrr.

I don't mind remakes\reboots. I do mind when they don't do the original justice. (Do be).

So, basically they're remaking Taken, and calling it "Commando".

A real world spin? That's why we love Commando, for the realism!?!?

I'm starting to wonder if writers are coming up with semi-original ideas for films, but to sell them to studios they're half-mangling it together with some old film and calling it a remake.

I guess it's to draw in the morbidly curious old skool fans. People without vested interest will see it anyway whether it is described as a remake or not.

You got to love the amount of static shots directors used in 80's action films. Did they realise they could move the camera?

Also, if James Horner's bingo-bongo score isn't in it, then I'm definitely not interested!

I dunno. I think certain modern action movie makers could learn to hold the camera steady once in a awhile!

Agreed. I think we could find a happy medium between the two.

No matter how good it is... it will never be as good as the original.

Wow it looks like most of Arnie's movies are being remade

Sam Worthington was the best thing in Terminator Salvation imo I think he could pull this off if not him them maybe Tom Hardy

    Please dont let this happen.
Arnie is oscar material compared to that piece of wood Worthington.
There is no need to remake any of these movies, you cant improve a classic .

they already remade Commando with John Cena, The Marine is pretty much the same thing but with a kidnapped wife instead of daughter. If this doesnt have Matrix and his daughter feeding deer, splashing about in a pool and her bringing him lemonade as he's chopping logs then I dont wanna know about it.

Hard R? I'll believe it when I see it. Directors just say this sh*t so the fanboys on AICN or wherever will get behind it.

Why don't just make a sequel with Ahnuld? They can use CGI for his muscles or whatever. Or better yet, just leave the original alone.

Commando is still a classic and always will be, its one of them old greats were you switch the brain off relax kick back and enjoy. Especially enjoy the one liners Arnie was the master of one liners.

Next youll be saying Running Man hasnt aged well either.

Will he still be called John Matrix? Favourite son of the esteemed Matrix family?

I don't like Sam Worthington. He has no charisma. And this mindless (awesome) action film needs a charismatic lead. Someone that'll make you smile.

My first choice would be Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He's jackked these days and is charming.

There's actually a Russian remake of Commando already out.
It's not abd at all, it's pretty much scene for scene with an attractive woman playing the raw dawn chong chatacter, and pretty funny Bennett's and Sully's.

I watched it in Russian as I couldn't find subs but it's watchable. The plots exact same.

Ah now I reckon Sam Worthington could carry this film no problem at all, ust look at Terminator Salvation he was the character everyone was rooting for, he completely overhsadowed Christian Bale. I think he carrys a great on screen presence.

Apparently a script was written for Commando 2, but was reworked to become another popular action movie
    Die Hard
Not sure if there is any truth to this but it is a very persistent rumour.

He was the first person I thought of too. He's got a very palpable and imposing presence you'd struggle to match anywhere else. He also has buckets of charisma to pull off the cheesy jokes and thrash talk - He did it for years in WWE with great success. Say what you want about him, he's incredible in a revenge role -> Faster, Walking Tall etc.

Worthington's very one dimensional. Always reminds me of someone just going through the motions.

I have to watch this film again! :D

I went around for years saying "F**k you, asshole" and couldn't remember what it was from.

...stuck in my head moreso than actually going around and saying it to people!
