Jacksons and their pointy headstocks

    :(:(:(

I used to have a Charvel strat type guitar, but as the years went by, grew out of the pointy head. I grew to hate it, and eventually sold the guitar rather than leave it lying around.

However, neck wise, it was one of the best guitars I ever played. I often go and check out the Jackson site in the hope they made a guitar without a pointy headstock, but alas so far, nothing but one signature model, and that's it..

I even had a Jackson surfcaster a few years ago, that I sold. I shouldn't have. This didn't have a pointy head, was a cheapo surfcaster but still had a beautiful neck.

A pity they don't make the surfcasters anymore. I would buy a humbuckered one in a shot!

They're feckin' health hazards on a small stage!

I love the Jackson pointy headstocks. I've got 2 Jacksons and a Charvel at the moment and wouldn't hesitate to pick up another. They are probably my favourite brand of guitar. I can see what you mean about lack of variety but Jackson are kind of famous for that headstock so they stick it on a lot. There is the less pointy SLS 3 a side headstock too if that suits you more?

I miss my Jackson Kelly, very fast neck and just really nice to play.
Theirs the SLS3 Soloist without the traditional headstock (Also in the shape of a V)

The Mark Morton one is a beauty. I remember they used to have a Scott Ian signature years ago that was also a beauty, but pricey.

The SLS3 soloist is cool, but I'd love if the head was even more rounded again.

On the topic of Jackson and Charvel, the "slime green" model here is a beauty altogether, but again, fairly expensive:

I'd love if Jackson made a semi hollow, or something with tele pups, or just something different to the 2 humbucker, though I suppose they would say "if it ain't broke............."

In an inverse way I was never fond of the pointy headstocks when I was younger and into heavier music, but I've grown to love them the older I've got. Fellow forumite Ancient1 has a killer Japanese Charvel with the pointy headstock, and Feylya has a custom made Ran with one too.

The Ran has EMGs which as you all know is the standard pickup for heavy, sounds awesome. The Charvel though does heavy like no other. It has the most aggressive but razor sharp pickups I've ever heard, it's phenomenal. Bring back the pointys I say!!

(I must confess I own a Yamaha Tele and an old 60's SG. I don't practice what I preach!)

Played a PC 1 and it was the most amazing neck I have ever wrapped a hand around. Agree with op 100 per cent. The headstocks are awful looking and it ruins an otherwise fine guitar

yup. used to have the Jackson SC4, the last one that was out, but the earlier ones were cooler looking. Charvel made surfcasters as well...

Scott Ian in Anthrax used to play a Charvel Surfcaster.... (google image it...)

He also endorsed a model called the Jackson JJ2 which was a beauty too. Not sure why they never made a cheaper model. No points on it at all!!!

I also see the cheaper version of M Morton Dominion on Thomann for e455. Lovely guitar.
