Hi, I'm starting two project soon and while I know my way around a gearbox, I'm no expert so I have decided to buy a ready made gearbox, I'm looking for top quality, and reliability. The budget for it is about the €100 mark.

If I could get one in Ireland that would be great but if not would I get charged customs etc on the gearbox, any other hidden costs I should know about. Thank you

    Sealcon

    heard great things about http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/upgrade-part/parts-upgrade-aeg/gearboxs/gandp-8mm-reinforced-bearing-gearbox-set-for-m4-series-rear-wiring-dean.html
but apparently the shafts and piston are not great in them... shafts break after long amounts of pressure and the piston is some sort of poor material.I aint an expert but im sure FK or Lefty can elaborate more.

also heard great things about the VFC gearboxes aswell

Thanks I didn't know VFC had complete gearboxes, Think I might go for one of them

The piston is designed to be a failure point. Its a cheap replacable part that goes to stop the rest of the gearbox going bang...
    £10 fix, vs £50.
The shafts seem fine in my ones, and they run with m120 motors as standard. Only had one piston go, when I was playing down in Cork...

Gearboxes can be killed by simple things, in that instance, the reciver pins came out of the body, and the front end of the upper lifted, jamming the nozzle against the hop unit... the piston failed, as designed, stopping the rest chewing itself to bits. Actually a very good feature.

Thanks for the info Firekitten. I was offered a G&P 7mm gearbox at a decent price from a friend, does anyone know if these are good, how would they compare to a VFC?

The ones I run are the next size up, 8mm bearing, and otherewise identical gearboxes. Pretty nice infact. I'd rate them the same, if not higher than a vfc box.

Great I'm getting it for €50 I think i'll take it then. Thanks for the help

    For that price, I would.

Though ask him what use the box has seen, what voltage battery and motor etc.

He said G&P M120 and about 500 rounds

Those gearboxes are amazing I think, I have about 5 of them and not one has failed me.. Great quality and when you trow a M85 spring in one they just fly :)

No motor but I'm still happy with the deal.

Thanks for the advice, I' now very confident in this gearbox
