Frequency of student ATC positions?

Just wondering how often such positions might become available? I remember they advertised last year looking for applicants for a student air traffic controller programme which started in February I think. I never applied and kind of regret it, still though they got 4,000 applications for 24 positions so I might not have got anywhere but still

Or any suggestions on another route? like in another country or with the navy or something or even something remotely similar?

2007 was the last time before 2010 when positons were advertised so I'd be grey before they go again. Nats? Eurocontrol have an age limit of 25 which I'm a few months over
