Looking for Jeans that sit on/above the waist

As the vaguely cool aunty (as opposed to the mother who "doesn't have a clue") I've been nominated to take my 15 year old niece jeans shopping on Saturday .

My niece says she already searched "everywhere", except M&S because she's "not over 40:rolleyes:". By "everywhere" she says she's tried River Island, Top Shop, Dunnes etc.

She a size 12, about 5'9", and her back/torso is very long, so regular jeans that sit just below the waist are too low slung for her. She need a pair that sits on or above a regular waist.

Sadly, the only place I could think of was M&S, so I'm about to lose the small semblance of credibility I think I have, unless anybody has any ideas.

Help, please :o any pointers would be gratefully received.

Awear, Dorothy perkins and try River Island (but you have to try every pair, I have this problem and sometimes find gems of jeans here).

Failing that flares are in and particularly high waisted ones seen them in Penneys and all over.

oasis have some high waisted ones, also dr denim in brown thomas has some high waisted ones and their not as expensive as some of the other ones stocked in brown thomas!
being tall myself i know it can be impossible to find jeans that fit and i normally have to shell out for more expensive ones but they do last forever and fit great!

Dublin - I'll probably bring her to Dundrum.
Budget - given the suggestions below, I reckon I'll probably be so relieved to find a pair she likes, I'll pay anything eek.gif.

Thanks for the other suggestions - looks like I'll have my work cut out. My aim was to try Gap first and go from there. Hadn't though of Oasis for jeans. Also, would never have even considered BT2, so it's on the list too.

Really, I have the little huge fantasy that we'll find a pair in the first shop, and my job will be done. Could be a long day :o

if you also willing to venture out - outlet in kildare has 7 jeans where the starting length is 32 - cheaper than BT! good luck ;)

I think Next always have a great selection of jeans ... loads of really varied shapes and styles, something for everyone there :)

Tk Maxx do 7's too:D And they usually have a great selection of diesel jeans too.

Does she want the jeans to look good on her or does she want what all her friends are wearing, regardless of how they look?....15 can be a tricky age:eek:

Thanks for the suggestions - Oasis was way off my radar (I've short legs and theirs are always too long, so I never even look for jeans for me there).

I'm presuming she wants jeans that look good on her AND that all her friends are wearing - as a 15 year old girl when the WHOLE world is against you and NOBODY understands, there's no such thing as compromise :pac:

Roll on Saturday and see how long my nerves last....I'm still grasping onto my fantasy, a fool, I know :o

    I don't envy you!!

My boyfriend has a niece of the same age. She's a pet and I adore her but my god, the mood swings!!

Try New Look - their jeans start from €12, and aren't too low slung.

I've gotten my last few pairs of jeans from GAP, i think they have a sale on at the moment :) The jeans there are great, love them! they sit nicely above the waist - avoiding my muffin top!

If you're going to Dundrum, try Esprit, I've got loads of jeans from there and they have a good variety of styles in low/mid/high rises. I got an email today from their online site and they've just gone into sale:D which is good cos most of their jeans are about €80.

Also House of Fraser has loads of different concessions and LOADS of jeans.

It's going to be a long day for you!!

Thanks, everyone for all the suggestions.

What a trauma - for her as much as me to be fair :o!

We started in Gap (my favourite, so disappointed they didn't have any that fit), then did River Island, Next, Oasis, Zara, H&M, A-wear, Top Shop, Monsoon (I was getting desperate).

The problem she had was the size 12's dug into her hips below the waist, but the 14's were huge on her.

She was fussy enough about style and colour - but no more than I would be, so can't fault her there.

We scored, finally, in Esprit (in the sale :)) - she was happy, and at that stage I just wanted a double gin & tonic.

Cool Aunty status definitely maintained
