Camping in Galway

    Well, me and a good few friends are planning to head camping near Salthill in late July.

    Only thing is, the Camping park only allows Families to stay.

    Would it illegal to camp in the countryside? Or do you guys have an ideas for us on what to do?

    It's not necessarily illegal as long as you get permission from the landowner. There is no common ground in Ireland, so there's always a landowner, and most are okay as long as you're not making a mess or lighting fires or the like. The problem will be finding suitable land near where you want. It can be surprising difficult.

    Go for the coast to avoid miges, better if it's windy too. On a beach perhaps. Don't do what we did by going to a campsite and going behind a bush so it would be sheltered from the wind... bad idea.:rolleyes:

    Oh, yeah, that's great advice. The West can be hell for midges, so it's best to stay away from forests, still water and small streams. The beaches are great, though.
