Well if it has to be a rock song then my choice at the moment would be Always by The Birthday Massacre

Collapse the Light Into Earth by Porcupine Tree. Just cos so many their songs are sad material, but that uplifting piano is too good.

EDIT: will be a choice between this and Rest Will Flow...arguably my favourite songs ever amongst two or three others.

    Dark Funeral: 'Atrum Regina'

I imagine any sort of lyrics would get annoying when you've heard them enough times so I went for instrumental :)

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

I'd probably choose Close To The Edge by Yes, at nearly twenty minutes long: sometimes more is more. :p

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

This is just part 1 of 3, a good 24 minutes of music to play over and over again.

Does FNM count as rock? :p

If not, it would probably be a bit of Zappa, maybe? Na... That's Experimental/border-line Avant Garde. Okay, I'll play it really really safe and go for a nice soft ELO tune. I don't know anyone who doesn't like ELO, not even musically retarded folks!

That was harder to pick than I thought, forgot all of my musically knowledge once I tried to think, ah well. Left out some great songs from great bands though, difficult decision.

Not sure it would be my choice but I've really come to appreciate that song recently - mainly thanks to it being a staple of Radio Nova's play-list - simply love all the variations. That and Behind Blue Eyes would be my favourite Who tracks.

Back on topic, I've no idea - in fact I think it's an impossible ask as even my favourite songs - Natural Science, Firth and Fifth, Awaken would become tiring after constant playing - which brings this post back to Nova :D

Jeez, impossible task really, but after seeing them live last month, they reaffirmed my love for this song, with a brilliant rendition of the instrumental La Villa Strangiato:

After listening to a song over and over again one tires of it inevitably. But not this song! In theory it will last for 1000 years.

Probably 'Intro/For Her Light/At The Gates of Silent Memory/Paradise Regained' by Fields of The Nephilim from the incredible live album 'Earth Inferno'. It's a stunning song from start to finish, considering it's just over 16 minutes and it never gets boring at all. Anyone who loves dark rock that is metalic and heavy really needs to check out this amazing band.:D

Here is part of the song.

for those about to rock - ac/dc

still stands the hairs up on the back of the neck.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭chiefwiggum

listening to my ipod the last few days..it is indeed a near impossible job to pick one song, what we should do is a boards rock/metal greatest hits compilation where every one names their fav tunes, one song per post, limit it to a double album say 30 tunes, tunes get picked my the number of "thanks" they get..
is it a goer? would need a new thread...would sort out the most popular tunes anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,789 ✭✭✭slavetothegrind

would make for an interesting and varied playlist anyway!

seeing as it's virtually impossible to do that by vote maybe you should start the thread and then compile the album as you see it after x amount of time.

after that nothing stopping others do the same.

i would probably compile a 4 part album running from the early days through to today with my best picks of each era.
