    Hi guys

Just wondering if there's any issues with setting up a .ie as a sole trader?

I rang register365, and they said they don't think there's any issue, and that it's not necessary to set up a ltd company, from the point of view of the website itself

That's correct. There are a number of ways to register a .ie address, but I've found the easiest way to do it is to register a business name (RBN) with the CRO. You can do this online for €20 at www.core.ie. Then you just supply the RBN number you get from the CRO to your domain registrar, and they send those details to the IEDR (ie domain authority).

Do you just want to register your name (e.g. johnsmith.ie)?

If you have a VAT number, then this will often suffice if the name it shows is similar to what you are registering.

If you're just starting out, sometimes the domain can be gotten on the back of a well worded letter from yourself (letters confirmint your trading status from accountant/solicitor/bank manager also work well).

The above are at the discretion of the IEDR - the RBN way as Eoin mentioned is more certain. Also, if its just your own personal name, a utility bill or copy of driving license or passport will do the trick.
