dropped my van, a '06 2.5ltr turbo diesel volkswagen into a mechanic this morning for a service. it was well overdue a service and despite getting a full service done the last time i said to give it a full service. so when i went to collect it just there the mechanic said everything was fine and it needed nothing extra the van was oxo. so just a full service then, happy days i thought until he produced the bill 320 odd euros:eek:. as it was only the guy working there and the main guy was away plus its the garage i use the whole time i made my excuse that i hadn't my checkbook on me and that i would drop in tomorrow to pay.

iam not too sure what i payed the last time for the full service but i think it was about 240ish with the minor service costing about 160-180. from the bill he seems to have 80 euros for labour and 240 for parts of which oil came to a whopping 110euros:eek:.

what is the normal cost for a service on this type of engine/van

Lesson learned so, shop around :o. That does sound pricey for the service but can't do anything now only pay up. At least you've some piece of mind now the van is 'oxo' :D.

    still havn't paid him yet;)
i get my car serviced and van serviced with the same guy about twice yearly so i would be pretty sure that he won't want to see me moving either. i felt the car service was a bit dearer the last time i dropped it into him but nothing to serious maybe 20quid or that so i didn't make any big deal about it. but this service on the van would seem to have jumped about 80 quid:eek: so i just want to make sure materials havn't gone up that much since i got it done the last time before i go off on one on him:D

    what mileage are you at??
and what mileage did you get last one done at?

the price difference could be explained by different service interval requirements these days...

a lot of cars have different requirements for a full service if the garage guy follows the manufacturers service requirements.. a full service at 60k miles can be different than a full service at 100k

Absolutely impossible question to answer unless you post up the exact details of what was done and how much was charged for each item.

clock is on about 135000km at the moment not too sure what was on the clock at the last service as the little card that he sticks on the window got lost, most likely the kids, but i would imagine about 120k km's

oil, air and fuell filters + oil, sump washer, fill the windscreen washer bottle and a quick check around = €320:eek:

thats what is itemised on the bill

Are they genuine parts even so you got ripped. The main dealer would be cheaper!
Ask them did they make a mistake on the labour.

seriously doubt they are genuine parts as i didn't ask for them, and i agree completely a main dealer would have been cheaper

If that is all they did for €320 then yes, you were ripped off IMO. As said, even using genuine parts I'd be surprised if it came to that.

That's a minor service with an air filter thrown in :pac:
€140 more than their minor service? Weird.
