Just wondering what the unemployed electricians plan to do in the next few years. I've been in and out of jobs myself and it's head wrecking. Not sure what to do.

Has anyone retrained? Gone abroad or is considering going abroad?

Is there as much work as people say there is over in Oz?

Are you going on a working holiday visa or a skilled visa?

ya its mental busy for electricians http://www.seek.com.au/ especially perth

on seek go to trades and services on the list and on the one below it you can select an electrician there's loads of jobs every day just on that site alone

but get your trade papers approved before you arrive so you can get your australian licence fairly quickly when you arrive depending on the state now perth and adelaide are the quickest i've heard but you'll be waiting months in quensland

i have a WHV so if i get a sponser there great, or if i want to stay and be independent i'll fork out for the skilled visa its a few grand like and you have to have 12 months work experience out of the last 24 on the date of the application

I can't get another working holiday visa and am considering getting a skilled migrant visa but apparently to can take over a year to get. Seems like a rather long time to have to wait.

Good luck with it anyways, no doubt you'll have a blast

if you worked in a remote area for 3 monthes i think you can get a second WHV and its doesn't have to be a solid 3 months you can add it up from different places if needed be

best of luck hope it works out for ya and a year is the minimum i think can be alot longer

I'm not sure how that would work, I presume I'd have to be in Oz for that to happen??

Going back to college myself in September, just been offered my place this week in Electrical Services Engineering in DIT Kevin St. Dont know what sort of opportunities there will be when im finished, but I think now is a pretty good time to do it, and I can always study further after the 2 years of that course if I cant find work from it.

Ive been out of work long enough to claim BTEA aswell, so that will help. Looking forward to it now I have to say, will keep me busy again!!!

In a nutshell Electrical Services Eng deals with lighting design, power design, fire alarm system design for buildings and doing all the calculations and creating drawings etc. And you also do Project Management and Renewable Energies.

Lads I have removed a number of threads, I had left them there corrected but they were more or less for the same thing. So I will explain the actions again here.

Please do not discuss union rates or industrial relations here. This is not the forum for these issues, this is an electrical forum were electrical DIY and practice issues are discussed.
Yes we can talk about apprenticeships in general and other items like the OPs original question, but it is not the place to talk about individual unions, companies or pay rates. I've handed out some warnings to stress the point.

Please keep this thread on track. I don't want to have to close another thread for this please, don't take the infractions too seriously and please don't leave the forum as a result they are the only control mechanism that the mods have to keep the forums on topic. Just read the charter and follow the guidelines and post away.

    thank you all. :)

    Hi Adrianna,

As I found out myself it's best practice to check with forum mods before you make such requests for a number of reasons

    1) They can in some cases (like this one) be seen as thread hijacking.
    2) They are off topic for the forum.
    2) They can be seen as spam (as sometimes the same request appears in more than one forum)

We have no issues with this particular request on this forum, however I advise that you take the time to check with the mods on the next forum before you post and start a fresh thread for your request.

Thank you, best of luck with your research. :)
