    Hi

Think I might have a bit of a gambling problem. I think about it a lot and I seem to spend most of my cash on it, well unless I win lol.

anyone got any experience of this?

    Cheers

    Bee

Only gamble what you can afford to lose.
Another way of assessing whether or not you have an addiction to gambling is to ask yourself the following twenty questions, provided by the self-help organisation Gamblers Anonymous:

Did you ever lose time from work or school due to gambling?
Has gambling ever made your home life unhappy?
    Did gambling affect your reputation?
Have you ever felt remorse after gambling?
Did you ever gamble to get money with which to pay debts or otherwise solve financial difficulties?
Did gambling cause a decrease in your ambition or efficiency?
After losing did you feel you must return as soon as possible and win back your losses?
After a win did you have a strong urge to return and win more?
Did you often gamble until your last dollar was gone?
Did you ever borrow to finance your gambling?
Have you ever sold anything to finance gambling?
Were you reluctant to use "gambling money" for normal expenditures?
Did gambling make you careless of the welfare of yourself or your family?
Did you ever gamble longer than you had planned?
Have you ever gambled to escape worry or trouble?
Have you ever committed, or considered committing, an illegal act to finance gambling?
Did gambling cause you to have difficulty in sleeping?
Do arguments, disappointments or frustrations create within you an urge to gamble?
Did you ever have an urge to celebrate any good fortune by a few hours of gambling?
Have you ever considered self destruction or suicide as a result of your gambling?

According to Gamblers Anonymous, if you answer ‘yes’ to seven of more of these questions, you most likely have a compulsive gambling problem.

In the event of this happening It's best to contact gamblers' annonymous, they'll try and help you.

I always laugh at those questions. I think the best way to know if you have a problem is if you can't stop. How long do you think you could go without gambling on something?

He only said he laughed at those questions listed above!

I agree with him. If you can't give up then you have a problem.

Most people who enter a bookies would answer 7 of those with yes, so I don't really see too much meaning in that.

If you think you have a problem, you need to tell someone, whoever you like. Only through support can you attempt to regain control.

I think it's really easy to laugh at something you don't understand. I don't think they are stupid questions. A lot of gamblers are in denial that they have a problem, they don't see what they are doing as a problem/illness. It's not really as simple as saying "if you can't stop you have a problem".

Anyway, OP if you feel you may have problem, GA have meetings everyday of the week, you don't have to ring them etc...you can just turn up to a meeting. If you feel that is a bit daunting, ring GA directly and one of the guys will be more than happy to meet you for a chat over coffee.

I always laugh at those questions. I think the best way to know if you have a problem is if you can't stop.

The problem is that many people who have a gambling or addiction problem think something along the lines of 'Of course I could stop, but I don't have a problem so I'm not going to' or 'I can stop anytime I want to but [insert name] races are on next week and I have a dead cert for them so I'll stop after that' Questions like the ones listed help highlight different areas that people may not even think of as being factors in having a gambling problem
