    Hi,

I applied for about 4 jobs in my field which had a closing date of 3rd June. I haven't heard either way back from any of them, now I know there was a bank hol after the 3rd and took this into account but thought if I was going to be offered an interview that I would have got a letter/call by this stage. I know it might be a case of hearing nothing back and move on but I hope not. How long in most cases would the selection process take to call people for interview?

I don't think you can generalise about this. You can get every variation depending on what is happening in the company.

I have seen where nothing happened and a phone call was made, and they said, 'we haven't made a decision yet'. Time went on and nothing happened and the whole thing was forgotten, then about 12 months later the job was posted again. If they had really wanted an employee they would not have waited 12 months to re-advertise. Eventually it turned out it was all to do with the availability or not of funding.

In other cases the job is already gone, they just have to advertise for legal reasons. Or the person placing the ad goes on holiday. Or they get one amazing result and just offer it without the hassle of interviewing everyone.

On the other hand you could get responses from all four within the month. If you do not hear within another week, say, you could ring them and ask when the interviews are likely to be.

I applied for a job on the of 10th May last and only got a call yesterday inviting me for interview. Some companies really take their time so I wouldn't rule it out yet. I would advise to continue your search though as replies from applications are few and far between these days.

OT - Yeah I have an interview!!! I will be trawling these pages for the next few days looking for advise and hints!!! :D

Thanks for reply. One company is local enough and CVs for submitted to an email address. I emailed given address yesterday to find out if they had started interviewing yet, no reply yet. I know it can take weeks for some places, but I'd prefer them to mail me back a reply so I can close the book on it. They probably took the first person who applied even though there was a week to submit CVs.

Very much depends. The way things are right now, my experience is that you can have to wait up until a month (as they plough through the thousands of CV's they receive).

Email them to double check and follow up if you want. Well, I usually leave it about a fortnight to do that.
