Bluray drives?

Would anyone hazard a guess at when we might see Bluray drives in off-the-shelf Macs?

It seems strange that, with BR established as the HD/capacity standard for optical media that two product cycles (am I right here?) have gone by for iMacs and MBPs with ne'er a whisper about bluray drives to replace the ubiquitous superdrive.

Delighted with my iMac, I'm now eyeing up a MBP as my next indulgence but I'm also finding the 4.7gb limit of a DVD a bit of a pain lately when burning data or movies. I'd love to have the new drive to help justify the purchase. (Jaysus, if the dial-up me of 10 years ago could hear me now, complaining that my DVD burner can't keep up with what I'm downloading!)

Probably never tbh. If anything, Apple are trying to phase out optical drives.

I think at this stage, the absolute best anyone can hope for will be that Apple will get OSX compatible with BD so that an external drive can be used if required (a good use for the new ThunderBolt ports!?!). But I doubt very much that they'll ever put the hardware in place, and since nothing has been mentioned about Lion supporting it, it doesn't look like they put the software in place for a while (if ever) either.

For anyone who knows, will it be possible for someone to put something on the Mac App store that would bridge the gap to allow playing/recording to BD via an external drive, or does it absolutely have to be done by Apple on the OS level, ignoring any possible hacks, I'm too lazy to try any of that! :D

Anyone know where you can get an external bluray drive in Dublin that's mac compatible?

Also has the cost of bluray discs dropped per GB compared to hard drives.
