Not qualified for a job because I'm not on the dole?

I got a call today from a company I had applied to. They rang to say they were impressed with my CV and exactly what they're looking for at the moment. They wanted to confirm I was currently on social welfare.... I'm not... they said the job was only for those who have been on social welfare for the last three months as that qualifies them to some back to work scheme. I was told I therefor didn't qualify for the available position.

Are they allowed to specifically recruit people on social welfare? Presumably the government will then be paying part of their wage bill.

It all seems very wrong.

Yep, sounds like another Fas Work Placement Programme "Job" unfortunately. Sure why pay people the old fashioned notion of a salary when you get them for nothing. It's true but very wrong indeed.

Seriously need a Prime Time Investigates on this shambles ASAP.

I'll second that . There is someone from Primetime who has been on this forum regarding other employment issues in the past so if they're watching this I suggest they do a programme on how employers are being given disincentives not to create real jobs.

Nearly every one of the jobs I come across on a job site is a FAS scheme or some other scheme. Like you have to be on t'dole for a certain amount of time before you can get the job, and even then they take some of your wage, or something along those lines :/ or else the classic "This is a work experience position, there is no salary paid".......... What?..... like seriously....WHAT?!?!?! WTF is this shyte? it's a job stacking shelves in Supervalue! People are recruiting for people to do the job, that I used to do, FOR FREE!!!

This came up on the census enumerators thread too. A lot are on JSB etc and applied for CE schemes. As they then took the job with the census they dont qualify now for the CE scheme and have to be on the dole for another 6 months!

I agree that these schemes are stupid, but I see the logic here, surely it is more important to get someone off the dole than give the job to someone who has one already?
