I'm planning on taking my partner to Berlin for his birthdayaround July/August and was wondering if anyone could tell me which airlines would be best or alternate ways that would be cheapest. I'm only planning on going for a few days.

Two choices: Ryanair or Aer Lingus. No one else flies that route direct.

Sometimes though, not often, Lufthansa can be cheaper. But that will involve a change of flight somewhere else.

Since you are trying to book tickets during the summer peak it will not likely to be cheap.

    If you have time http://www.seat61.com/Ireland.htm
Any rail station in Britain to Dublin, for £33 or less by inter-city train & luxurious superferry, or £38 by train & 'Swift' fast ferry. A small booking fee applies to online sales.

A useful combo is to use www.eurostar.com or www.raileurope.co.uk to book London-Cologne then use www.bahn.de to book onward trains into Germany, or the sleeper trains from Cologne to Vienna, Prague, Copenhagen, Warsaw, etc. www.bahn.de can also book the sleeper trains from Amsterdam to Prague, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Munich, Zurich and so on, and many international trains to or from Germany.

Unfortunetly Ryanair has dropped the ball in terms of their low fares motto when it comes to Irish flights to Berlin. The tax charges are a flat €33 each way !!!!! bumping the cheapest July fare up to €144 before service charge. Interestingly our UK counterparts appear to be able to fly out to Berlin return for half of what we are being charged. Good luck with the trip.
