    Hi there, looking for advice.
As I don't have any loans apart from my mortgage I've decided I might try for a top up loan on my mortage to pay for my wedding.
Im going to have something small and im looking for advice of the average cost of a wedding. Could someone take a few minutes of their time to list some major costs for a wedding. I really just dont know were to start and what to ask for. I dont want to ask for a figure and I need more/less.

I really appreciate any help :)

First piece of advice - try your best not to borrow for it?

Second, get a reasonably close idea of who you're inviting.

Big cost items include (assuming you're going for a traditional wedding)

Hotel - Packages range from as low as 25 euro a head to, well, wherever you can think of. Typically budget 50-60 if you want wine at the table, 4 courses, afters food, canapés, that kind of thing. This really really does depend on where you go, and what you want. So start visiting hotels and seeing what they offer.

Band - typically 1500 to 2500, depending. Can include DJ (usually another couple of hundred if not)

Photographer - about 1000 to 1500, depending. Album may cost more depending on what you want too, but you might be able to put the album off for a year or so.

Then you have other bits and pieces -

dress (women will tell you this! Anything from 90 quid to 2500 and on to 10000)

suit/suit hire - 100 quid a man to hire, 300 maybe to buy

flowers (gotta have 'em!) well, 400-500.

car - 300-500 (or a friend might drive you)

Bridesmaids, flower girls dresses maybe? Bit of cash for the church?

To be absolutely honest, theres huge variability in terms of what you might want and what you might spend. Some people are happy with a simple civil registry office and dinner for small crowd after, others won't be happy unless 500 friends, family, neighbours, cousins, family friends, friends neighbours, etc turn up on the day.

To help you, imagine the day compared to other weddings you've been at - what did you like, what did you feel you want or don't want at yours. Then start to shop for it and see what's affordable. All suppliers will bargain with you, but you have to start by seeing what you want then seeing if it's doable.

And when you start with hotels, even if it seems all the nice ones are expensive, plug away because you will find somewhere.

    Oh, and congratulations.

Would you not consider a short term credit union/bank loan instead?
Sticking it on to your mortgage means paying back huge interest on it for the next 10/15/20 years??? Doesn't make sense.
