Current school/reference; looking for new job

I have been working since christmas as a non casual part time teacher (20 hours).

The teacher retired so the job or at least part of it is up for grabs in september (depending on concessionary hours etc)

There is a good chance I will be asked back but probably wont find out until august.

Should I apply for other jobs in the mean time?
What if they want a reference from my current school?

That could be awkward and might 'anger' my current school as I am pretty sure they will do their best to get me back

    Thanks

    Apply.

Mention to vp or prin. that you are applying because you need a backup in case the current job falls through and that you hope that you can put them down as a referee.

You would be mad not to.

Im in the exact same position. My principal actually advised me to apply for everything incase I could get more hours elsewhere and has told me I can always turn down any job offers once he is clear on how many hours he can offer me. Everyone is aware of how challenging the situation is.
