    Helllooooooo!

I am (we are!) currently in the 'venue hunting' stages of the wedding planning process and indecisive like you wouldn't believe!

So far we've been to see:

    Castle Leslie ; http://www.castleleslie.com/

We both really loved this place but the room prices seem very expensive compared to other venues and I don't want to put our guests out by getting them to stay here (also their T&Cs are we have to guarantee 20 rooms will be taken). LOVED THE MARQUEE!

    Clontarf Castle ; http://www.clontarfcastle.ie/

Love this place (as its where I grew up) but we will have about 80 guests which is too little for their great hall and we weren't keen on their viking suite

    BallyBeg House ; http://www.ballybeg.ie/

Love the concept of this place but it just wasn't up to standard for us (in the marquee there was a shutter screen hiding junk behind the bar and one of the guest cottages (there are only two) seemed a little old/knackered especially when compared to the other relatively new cottage)

    Brooklodge ; http://www.brooklodge.com/

We both really liked this place! Staff were so helpful and made us feel so comfortable while we visited. Definitely on our list to consider seriously

Has anyone ever been to any of these places for a wedding or otherwise? Any comments/thoughts appreciated!

    Thanks a mill,

    Cheekyass :p

I've stayed in the Clontarf before and though it was nice, I don't think I'd like to get married there personally, bit cramped as you say =)

I got married in Clontarf and it was fab.
We had the great hall though, I don't think I was in the viking suite.

I've been to brooklodge a couple of times (not for weddings though) and its a great venue.

Out of curiosity op where do you live? Where is the church or reg office?

I considered Brooklodge but it was too expensive. I didn't think it was worth the money it cost per person, especially compared to the venue we picked (Summerhill House). I didn't actually look at it though, just looked at the brochure and saw the price and the package you got with it and decided it wasn't worth it. A friend's sister got married there though and from all accounts the wedding was fabulous.

Good luck in your venue hunting and congratulations!

Many thanks everyone! I grew up in Clontarf so thats why we looked at Clontarf Castle. But neither of us are really fussed about what church we get married in.

The church bit (in my experience) is the most difficult to organise. If you are not getting married in the parish in which you are currently living then it can be quite difficult. If you have your own priest that you can bring with you then its easier but if you don't, you might find it difficult. Lots of priests won't marry you and those that will do it will usually charge you extra for not being from the parish. So make sure you investigate that side of things along with the venues. No point in booking castle leslie if you end up needing to use a church in clontarf as an example!

Exactly! I know someone getting married in Balbriggan, her reception is outside mullingar!! She is originally from Bray so her family and friends will have to go from Bray to Balbriggan and then to Mullingar - a lot of them aren't going to the church - they just can't do it!!

Important thing is timing....is there enough time to go from the church to the venue to allow for photography and relaxed chats and drinks before dinner...consider traffic.

    Hope that helps

    Hi op!

Ive been to two weddings at the brooklodge. both were for cousins weddings. the first one had the recption in the main part of the hotel where there is kind of a split level.we were seated on the upper part and couldnt really see anything that was going on round the top table and had to fidget and move about to see when the speeches were happening. The second cousin had her wedding in the newer section that is out on its own. this room was fab and much better laid out in my opinion. the food on both occassions was lovely and we had a great time at both weddings. we only stayed at the hotel for the first wedding the rooms were really nice and fine for the amount of time you spend in it.the second time we stayed in a b&b just up the road as it was far too expensive to stay the night this time round(250E if i remember correctly:eek:).

i have no idea of the costs for here but for our wedding we are looking for something along the same line as brooklodge and have visited Clonabreany house,Ballymagarvey village,Village at lyons and Tulfarris Hotel.they were all fab so we have to try to decide between them all now:rolleyes:
