Deferred Student Entitled to JSA?

I am a first year student of a three year degree course. I have had to defer my place for a year midway through my second semester. After withdrawing from the course, I applied for job seekers allowance as I am now looking for work.

I supplied the welfare office with a letter from the college stating that I had withdrawn from the course. Now, they want to know why I left the course and if I have applied for a deferral.

I would like to know if my answers to these questions will affect my entitlement to job seekers allowance? Are deferred students entitled to welfare?

    Thanks
