    from wikipedia link:
Hasbro conducts a worldwide Monopoly tournament. The first Monopoly World Championships took place in Grossinger's Resort in New York, in November 1973. It has been aired in the United States by ESPN. The current world champion is Bjørn Halvard Knappskog who won the title in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 22, 2009. 41 players competed for the title of Monopoly World Champion and a cash prize of $20,580 USD, which is the total amount of 'Monopoly money' in the current Monopoly set used in the tournament

its gas :pac: there is actually a championship for monopoly :pac:

in 1973, John Mair, from ireland won the "championship" - we've got 1 more thing to be proud of.

Do you know if there's a higher rate of stabbings/sulks/table-flipping after the tourney?

This competition is well known to many for just as many years, just as classic arcade championships (see here for example) or other classic board game championships.
