If you were to leave the country tomorrow morning on a solo backpacking trip for at least 3 months. Where would you go ?

India, however no-one should just up sticks and go backpacking on a whim like that, you need to plan, learn about the area and try and figure out what you'd like to see and do etc. Such last minute trips would be disastrous and last minute travel like this is better suited to say a weekend or Paris, Prague or Rome etc.

Spot on about the planning point.
Have you been to India or what would draw you to it?

Haven't been to India.. yet! However I have been saving up some dosh since my return from Thailand a few months ago for a trip there; hopefully next year. Alot of my attraction to it stems from some of what I heard about it from other travellers in Thailand and I reckon it would be a great adventure to go and visit for maybe three months.

At the moment I am recording and downloading every TV show I can find on India and I think it would be a unique experience to do it. Like chimpo85 Africa would be truely awesome too I'd imagine but for the solo traveller I reckon it could be too much to take on by yourself, security, health and safety would be a big issue over there too.

Completely disagree.. I found out I was leaving Ireland just over 3 weeks before a one way flight to Bangkok. Loved that I hadn't planned or really knew anything about where I was going. Although for somewhere more difficult to travel, then yea.. Some planning could be good although the idea of winging it is nice. I definitely wouldn't plan much for India.

Saying that, I've started planning South America now at least 18 months ahead of flying there though because I'm definitely going about it a different way.
