as above but also if it was insurance money that paid for repairs can i do this?

it was a old house if that makes any difference, and the repairs have been made, as a result of insurance payment.

anyone have any experience on this?

    thanks

Is this house your residence, or a rental property?

If residence, the answer is no. Sure why would you get tax relief on it, particularly if it's the insurance company's money paying for it?!

If it's a rental property the answer is still pretty much no, although there may be some adjustments needed for capital allowances etc. You'd need to talk to a competent professional if it's a rental property.
