    Hi all,

I have a quick question which I think may have a very quick answer....

I have a Macbook Pro and am soon to get an iPad 2 delivered any day now. I am thinking about getting Apple TV but want to know if I can stream video from either the Macbook or iPad to the Apple TV (without resorting to hacking etc etc) …. Does this functionality exist?

    Ta muchly

For the iPad that would be AirPlay. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4437
I think at the moment it only works with certain apps but come iOS5 the ipad 2 will have full display mirroring over AirPlay.

    Don't know about the MacBook

Don't forget that the Apple TV is very limited on the file types it can play - for example no AVI or MKV files

But if I can play AVIs through the approved VLC app on the iPad, and then mirror the screen from the iPad to the TV that'll circumvent the problem of Apple TV not playing the AVIs directly right?

Or you can stream the files from your Mac/PC to your iPad with the airvideo app and send them to your TV with AirPlay.

Really though, jailbreaking Apple TV will just sort everything out.
