Exhausted from work

    Hi everyone

I rang in sick to work a few minutes ago. Tbh, I feel bad about it. I was due to start at 14.30-23.30 but I feel physically exhausted that I couldn't get out of the bed to even have a shower for work. I got ample sleep last night. Went to bed at 12 and woke at 9.

My job requires that we must supply them with a cert even if it's for one day of absence so tomorrow I'll head to the doctor. I'm just wondering will a doctor give me a cert for tiredness? I no it sounds completely mad! But I'm going to bring a copy of my last 2 months roster and show him how I have been working between 45-60 hour weeks,6 days straight with one day off and then back to square one each time. On top of that, I'm crippled with menstrual cramps and it's not helping matters!

If anyone has any advice! Thanks!

Depends on the doctor. I haven't had any time off in about 7 months. I just took 2 days holidays this week and got the f'kin flu on Sunday. Due back to work tomorrow but feel even more wrecked than when I started. Why don't you just book a few days off?

Thanks for replying. I never ring in sick. Last year I didn't ring in sick for a year and then in December I got bronchitis.

The thing about my job is if we want annual leave they are booked in about six months advance. For example, my leave for this summer was booked last winter. So I couldn't just call and say I was taking a holiday day...

My doctor usually just writes "illness" on a sick cert. I have had time off for stress related illness in the past and this is all he ever wrote on it.

The doctor does not have to explain what the reason is on the cert. Your medical issues are private and no concern of the company you work for.

Do you enjoy your job, despite the long hours? There is nothing more draining than spending 60 hours a week doing something you hate.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure that 60 hour weeks/6 day working weeks are illegal...unless it's overtime, which should be voluntary.

Try changing you 'wake up' time by +/- 30 mins. Walking up during different stages of your sleep cycle can have a huge effect on how you feel. e.g...alarms waking you up during a REM cycle will leave you feeling more groggy. Also consider that you may need less than 9 hours sleep. I naturally require 4.5 hours sleep per night. If I sleep 9 hours my body goes into 'shutdown' mode and it makes me feel terrible.

Also, make sure you go to sleep at the same time each day. Consistency is extremely important for high quality sleep.

You can opt out of the EU working hours directive and as such are exempt from limits on the amount of work you do.

Thanks for the reply! You see the thing is my week goes from sunday to monday so they can split my days and have me working up to 60 hours non overtime. I do love my job, but lately it has just caught up on me and im really exhausted. Today I literally got outta bed to have a cup of tea and straight back to bed where I have been dozing. Never been like this! Thanks again!

If you dont have anything to add to the forum other than silly comments then do not post at all.I also advise that you familiarise yourself with the charter before posting again.

I think your doctor will advice you to take a full week of work to rest and have time to relax. you are obviously exhausted and need a break.

The body has it's own way of telling us when it's time to slow down.

Think about yourself for a moment, the job will still be there next week.

    good luck.
