    Hi guys,

Just a quick question! Looking at starting midweek comps for the members here at our club. Just wondering what your club does (i.e. 9 hole re-entry etc)?

Played in a 14 hole scramble last week.
Think midweek compas should encourage fun, ie. mixed foursomes or something like that.

Mixed foursomes and fun would be two things I would never put in the same sentence

Not in the golf forum anyway... ahem.

We have a 9 hole competition on a Wednesday evening (open to men and wimmins).
You don't book times for it, just arrive and play with whomever is there on the tee. Of course you can play with a regular crew but it also leads to good social mixing.
The fee is €4 for entry plus €1 for a 'birdie hole' competition. After the round, a hole is drawn from the 9 and any birdies on that hole share the pot - if not won, it gets carried over to the following week.
Also, to encourage members to have a bite to eat and a Lucozade after, there's a special menu in place and any cards that are returned go into a draw, even if you sucked (this draw is limited to those who are still at the presentation so if you go home then you're not in). The names drawn each week during the summer go forward to an end of season draw (done around Christmas) and the winner this year will get free subs next year.

On balance, it's a good mix of fun and competition. It's handy to keep the eye in before the weekend and it can suit people on those long summer evenings. I haven't played many this year but I do enjoy it. We have singles on Thursdays also if you want a 'proper' 18 hole qualifier.

I read somewhere that Holystown (not a member) are running a mid-week powerplay golf comp - 9 holes with 2 flags (1 hard and 1 easier) on each hole and you get double points if you nominate the hole in advance as one of your alloted powerplay holes. Can't imagine the greenkeepers would be all that chuffed with the idea, but it would make a good change once a month or so and keep people interested.

We have a mid week open singles like most clubs in the greater Dublin area now.

We used to play the 18 hole open singles in the following clubs alternating each week all last summer, they are the same this summer as far as i know.

    Monday - Tullamore
    Tuesday - Birr
    Wednesday - Athlone GC
Thursday - Moate / Esker Hills
Friday - Mullingar (never played this one)

All are 18 hole re-entry and there is a 2's club for the par 2's
