Humax Foxsat HDR won't accept future recordings

My 20 month old Humax HDR Freesat recorder stopped allowing me to programme recordings last weekend. While I was scanning through the epg to see what I'd like to record over the coming week, it gave me the message:
"Please wait while incoming signal is received".

There was nothing wrong with the signal on either tuner as I had 100% strength and quality on both and I was able to watch all channels with no problems. I was also able to record something that was on at the time but I just can't get it to record programmes in advance using the epg.

Any ideas whats wrong with this device which has performed flawlessly up to now?

AFAIK it's a bug in the Humax software that came about as part of the other bug fix earlier this month. Most annoying.

If you press Schedule then the red button you should have the updated EPG. If not you might have to do a channel scen to make sure you have all the latest channel changes as this can sometimes affect the EPG updating.

I wasn't aware of an existing bug in the software prior to now as my Humax has worked perfectly up to last weekend.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try this evening.

I only noticed it at the weekend myself.

AFAIK it was always the case that if the EPG was downloading you could not book a recording.

Since the update you now get a message telling you to wait until the EPG has downloaded.

I think schedule then red button gives you the cached EPG, as in what it has already downloaded. When you press guide it now loads in the EPG from scratch which can take up to 45 seconds.

I had the same problem with the latest software upgrade so I dumped it and reverted to the earlier version. All is now well again.

The best thing to do is turn off auto update and update using a USB stick when the bugs are ironed out.

There is a site containing all the earlier software/firmware versions for all Humax products, haven't got it to hand but I found it fairly easily using google.

The only thing I found was the unit seema fussy about the type of USB stick used for the up/down grade, I used an old 256mb one which worked just fine.

    Cheers Ae

Does it not automatically download the updates - mines set to auto update but I think its on version 7 ?

Does it need a network connection

Yes they usually auto download over the satellite connection, sometimes if there's a problem you should disconnect it from the mains for a couple of minutes and reconnect and it will auto download when it boots up.

The new firmware seems to have issues, I would suggest you hold off as lots of folks have reverted back to the older version.
