    Hi

Just turned on my laptop for the first time since Saturday nite when I used it after been out drinking for a few hours to find my screen broken:mad:. The glass is grand but there is lines and black marks all over it. It's a Dell inspiron 1525 can someone recommend a good place to get it fixed at a reasonable price

    Hi,

It mightn't be broken and it might be covered by the recall on nvidea graphics cards that happened a while back, give Dell a call and see if you can get it fixed for free, nothing ventured and all that. Otherwise, I would suggest that it would be as cheap to get a new laptop as it would be to replace the screen on 1

sounds as if you have cracked the screen , does it look like ink inside the screen , a screen for a 1525 would be around 100 you could get one second hand well worth repairing imo.

If you don't want to try it yourself and are around Dublin TechPros in Tallaght or Lucan will do it for €149 including parts and labour. €144 if you join their facebook group.

Yes, thats the full price you pay. That's presuming its not a HD or LED screen or some other types of screens that are fairly expensive and that it's also 15.4 or 15.6 inch. A quick Google says it's a 15.4 inch WXGA so it should be that price.

I got a new screen for my 1525 on Adverts for 70 euros only I cannot get it to light up. The screen is very dark and hard to see.

Either the backlight or the inverter is gone. If its the backlight there's not much you can do its inside the screen casing and very hard to replace. You'd have to buy another new screen. If its the inverter its just a few screws to get too and not much work at all.

Is the inverter a little rectangular circuit board connected to the screen by 2 wires?????

Its connected to the screen by 1 wire, at one end and connected to the laptop by a wire at the other, its in between the laptop and screen, it should be about 1 cm high and about 8cm wide roughly.

Sometimes it can just be that the inverter wires aren't in properly, the screen will turn on but it wont know how to light itself properly. If the inverter is damaged it would be the same with any screen though.

It's actually two wires usually pink and white, if you didn't plug the screen to inverter cable in properly then you may have blown inverter, new inverter about €20 on ebay, some of those Dells actually need a Dell coded screen, €145 a bit steep, I charge €130 for the Dell screens and €120 for the generic screens with 12 month warranty, did your screen come with the inverter attached? usually the Dell coded screens come with an inverter.
