Elderly woman uses AIDS threat to rob Colorado bank: police

(Reuters) - A woman robbed a Colorado bank by passing a note saying she would infect a teller with AIDS if the clerk didn't hand over money, police said on Friday.

Jeff Satur, spokesman for the Longmont, Colorado police department, said detectives are searching for a pale woman between the ages of 55 and 75 with a "boney build."

Satur said a woman, who was wearing a train conductor's cap and a gray sweat shirt, walked into a Wells Fargo bank inside a Safeway grocery store on Thursday night and handed a note to a teller.

"She indicated she had AIDS and would give it to a teller if she didn't cooperate," Satur said.

The woman coughed frequently into a blue bandana during the robbery, and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, Satur said.

Police and the FBI released still photographs of the robbery and are reviewing additional photographs and surveillance video from the bank's parking lot to try and identify the suspect.

She is described as about 5-feet 6 inches tall, and weighing between 130 and 150 pounds.

No weapon was displayed during the robbery and no one was injured, police said.

Well where i'm from (Dungarvan) the lady used to actually give the men AIDS rather then give them the option !!

55 isn't elderly, either is 75 if you are still nimble.

And if it really was an elderly woman she would have passed a note saying that Aids wasn't around in her day because the ghey wasn't invented then.

you're fairly safe in a swimming pool though ....it cant survive out of the body long and the chlorine would more than likely wipe it out

moral of the story...if dirty aul wan trys to rob you in a swimming pool and shes not too close and no sign of a needle then maybe you can laugh in her face and climb out of the pool quickly and run away before she tries to ride you

for any other situation, take her at face value and give her the banks money which is insured.

All she can pass on to the teller is contaminated blood with the HIV Virus.

The blood would want to be relatively fresh as HIV will only survive a few minutes outside the body.

Also Aids will not come about unless the CD4 cell count falls below 200 cells/mm3 blood. The chances of anyone getting full blown aids from HIV is slim if detected early as modern antivirals can keep the viral load right down to almost undetectable levels indefinitally.

Makes a pleasant change to banks robbing the elderly I must say!


But in a more serious note, that has to be the easiest robbery in history. No weapon, ie no syringes, teller most likely behind a screen in safety and it's committed by a woman of a broad age spectrum coughing into a blue bandana. Credit where credit is due!

Why didn't the cashier just walk away from the counter ans then proceed to laugh at said old lady?

What was the she going to do, throw the AIDS at him/her?

When I read the OP I thought it said she threatened to infect the bank with AIB. Now there's a scary thought.
