Rip in leather couch

I am currently living in rented accommodation and somehow we managed to put a tear in the leather couch. I have no idea how it got there but I would like to get it fixed. My landlord contacted me about getting a new couch but said it would be okay to get it fixed (if possible).
The couch is black and about 2 years old.

I think the couch is very similar to the one pictured here.

As you can see it is quite pricey and if I would like to avoid buying another if possible.

The tear is in the center of the main "square" where your knees would be if you were lying on the couch. I think my housemate or I might have lay on the couch with shoes on and the side of our shoe might have cut into the leather. To be honest I am only guessing about that.

I am going to ring a few furniture places to look to get it patched or reupholstered but in the mean time would be very interested to hear of anyone with any experience in this type of thing.

    Thanks
