Aluminium Rads - Smeraldo ??

    I have to replace our radiators at home, and am looking for the best options.

    I have been given a quote with "Smeraldo" High Efficiency Aluminum Radiators, and am wondering does anyone here have any experience with this make/model.

    I am also looking at some other rads in the "Quinn" range.

    Background: Re-modelling our home (circa 30yr old). Planning to spend a fair whack on insulation, line all external walls etc. No UFH. Replacing current 10yr old diesel boiler with something else - probably Condensing Oil Boiler. Also planning on having a stove of some description (possibly Boru inset) that can heat rads, by burning logs / turf / coal.

    Anyone with similar experience have Ideas?

    Not to sure of the make of rad but aluminium rads are great.

    Be careful though i dont think you can connect aluminium rads to a stove. Just check with the manufacturer.

    You need to be able to regulate the heat. Aluminium rads work well at lower temperatures, the other side of it is I was told , that if you give them uncontrolled high heat, they become too hot!, nearly burn your hands if you touch them....a plumber warned me about using them for that reason in an uncontrolled area...

    OK

    So what I can see is that the best option here is to use one of these "Combi" Cylinders , or "Thermal Store" or some commercial offerings is a "ProClean" system.

    Does anyone know if these are actually any good - do you end up heating a load of water for no use? Is it manageable?

    i.e. If I want the rads on to heat the place up, will it take an hour(s) before they come on due to heating this buffer tank?

    They seem massive (500L and upwards to 2000L) I guess the 2000L one is commercial.

    So for my wee house, I'm wondering if I have a boiler, and a stove and (possibly) solar, am I as well off with one of these combo (combi) systems to run the rads (aluminium) and DHW off. Or am I as well to stick with the good ole regular triple coil system.....

    :confused::confused::confused:
