;)Thinking about putting BSc Government in my top cao options, as a business progression route as I like the business side of things, but probably won't get the points for commerce, want to go ucc, any updates on this course much appreciated, if you have done this course or know of other people ?? is it recognised as a business degree or more politics / government ?? how good are the career opportunites ?? ;)

I did Commerce myself and would have taken one or two Government classes the whole way along through the degree. Personally i wouldnt really classify the BSc in Government as a business degree even though technically it is, definately more politics/government as you put it. That said you will be taking some classes like marketing etc that would be the same as taught in the BComm. Judging from talking with some government students in one of the classes i was in, the job prospects werent good though that can be said for most courses at this moment in time. Cutbacks in public service really making life difficult for government graduates to get a job. My 2 cents would be if you are looking more at getting a business job then a commerce or business degree would be more beneficial. I will admit to being an outsider looking in so a government student may disagree with everything i just said!

I did 1 year of this degree and just found it a bit useless, very interesting but still useless! The lack of jobs in the public sector would make it a nightmare! If I were you i'd do commerce and you'll still be doing 1 or 2 of the government classes. Plus any optional classes you could try verr towards government classes too?

It's an interesting course, but it seemed to me like it was more of a hobby than a college course! But hey, everybody is different!

I have a Government degree and it is most definitely not a business degree. It is based in the Commerce faculty so they chuck you a few business related modules every year. I did accounting, economics, marketing and management modules. You could do a business related postgrad though if you think you won't get the points for Commerce. I do know one guy from my class is a qualified tax advisor now.
