So me and a few mates have been doing a fair bit of cycling recently, they all have good bikes - Giant Defy 4, Genesis Aether 30 and a Felt Z85.

I however, have been trudging along on my Grandfather's five year old Trek 7.2FX, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the frame is too small for me. So I think it might be time to upgrade. :P

I have been trying to convince my employer about the bike to work scheme, and so far he is having none of it, so things aren't looking good on that front.

My aim is to buy in a local shop, anyone from Cork might know them, Rothar, in Carrigaline, but if they don't stock what I want/can't order it for whatever reason, I'll go elsewhere.

I've done some looking around, and so far I'm leaning towards a Cube Attempt. Anyone have any alternatives/better bikes/whatever to suggest?

The cube is pretty much the extent of my budget too, I can't afford much more. :o

I would say definitely go for it!! My older brother has a cube attempt and he absolutely loves it.

I myself have rode on it a few times( just to get stuff from the shop etc.) and its awesome to cycle on.

I'd nearly wish the shop was further so i could cycle it even more

Ok so I shopped around today. Only one shop sells the Cube Attempt. They can order it in for me for for €1199. Didn't push for a discount, but I reckon I could get something on it, or else on accessories.

Most other places I tried, just said the don't deal with Cube. One shop offered me a KTM Strada 2000. Retail at €1299, he said he might be able to do a cash job for €1200.

So, Cube Attempt Vs KTM Strada 2000?

The Cube Attempt in a 62 frame is out of stock in every Cube dealer in Ireland, and out of stock with Cube themselves.

I currently have a five week lead time from cyclesuperstore in Dublin for a Cube Attempt on the bike to work scheme. By the way I got a discount from them as well. I could go for a Cube Peloton - one down from the Attempt - which they a few in stock of. But Tiagra vs 105??????

Why are you restricting yourself to bricks and mortar shops. If it was me, I would look second hand as you will save a lot of money. The c2w scheme has inflated the in shop prices of bikes, while decreasing the second hand market (as its flooded with c2w scheme bike that never get used). The alternative is to buy online, and if your thinking of spending €1200, why not get a focus cayo (or similar) which would be a carbon frame, 105 equipped machine. The wheels aren't as good as the cube, but thats an easy upgrade, the best thing you can do is buy a bike with a good frame and it leave the option open to upgrade little by little if you so choose.

I was looking at the Focus Cayo and Canyon bikes. Is there a reason as to why they are so much cheaper for what you get in comparison to other brands? Do they have poor quality control or something? i.e the behringer of cycling?:P

Bought my Cube Peleton in The Edge in Cork about a month ago. Becuase I wasn't going through the BTW schem I asked, and easily got, a 10% discount. They should then give you a loyalty card for 10% all future purchases.

side tracking a little but what size Peloton did you pick for your height? Looking at a similar Cube from cyclesuperstore.

I'm around 5 ' 10" and I was sized for a 58" bike. I was told that one of the major factors was the 'inside leg' measurement, rather than height. But once I tried the frame they set the saddle height, then the saddle/fore and aft adjustment, and the handlebar stem could have been changed to suit my arm length (but the standard one was fine). There is also an adjustment in the handlebar stem to allow you raise/lower it (to adjust the angle of your back).

The list price was €999 (without pedals) but I got 10% off for paying cash.
